With Space Applications Services
We’re super excited to host Hilde Stenuit from Space Applications Services at Hack Belgium. Hilde will give two sessions on how your solution can benefit from space technology and will also demo the ICE Cubes space platform in the Experience Zone.
Moreover, Space Applications has contributed a challenge! If you come up with an interesting project that uses space features, then Space Applications will invite you to their HQ to explore possible collaboration!
After a PhD in plasma-astrophysics, Hilde Stenuit started work “in space” with the company Space Applications Services. She supported the European Space Agency as ISS mission scientist. Now they created a unique service – called ICE Cubes – to provide fast access to space opportunities for research and technologies.
Workshops & Sessions
If you’re interested in space tech, make sure you attend Hilde Stenuit’s session on day 1 “Tech Inspiration: Space Infrastructure” which is all about how to best make use space infrastructure for terrestrial benefit. On day 2 Hilde is giving a workshop on “ICE Cubes & The Space Station” which is about how ICE Cubes can get your technology into the space station for testing.
In the Experience Zone, Hilde will demo ICE Cubes and possibly with direct commanding to the international space station from Hack Belgium.
How can your solution or business idea benefit from space features? Space offers a wide range of advantages relevant for R&D and technology innovation. For example, it allows you to address industrial processes for novel materials and it enables the manufacturing of optical fibres in space for earth uses. Also aspects such as earth observation are relevant for both research and more commercial goals such as distribution chain traceability or water management. Last but not least access to microgravity and therefore the possibility to have control over the gravity-factor has high potential in solutions in the areas of health such as drug testing or drug encapsulation, or in areas as biotechnology or food processes such as shelf life extensions. How can you see your solution taking advantage from space features for terrestrial benefit?
Life After Hack Belgium Team Support
Link up to space! Space Applications Services will let you experience what it means to develop & operate for space and to explore possible collaborations into materialising your terrestrial solution based on space
Space Applications Services and our ICE Cubes service strongly believe in the strength of open innovation. Hence we look forward in exploring possible collaboration with teams from Hack Belgium who come up with innovative solutions for the challenge of earth solutions based on space assets.
The best team addressing our challenge will be invited to our Space Applications Services HQ site in Sint-Stevens-Woluwe to see first-hand and hands-on what it means to engineer, develop and operate for / in space. They will be able to sit in the ICE Cubes mission control centre and send commands to space. You will visit our clean room. In addition we will then evaluate and explore possible collaborations into materializing your terrestrial solution based on a project in space. ICE Cubes will also promote your promising idea through our channels.
Space Applications Service will attend the Life After Hack Belgium Pitch event in April to assess the teams responding to the challenge and explore possible next steps for promising solutions.
