We are the so-called crossroads of Europe but the movement of goods and people is increasingly hobbled by congestion. Transport is responsible for 20% of our total greenhouse gas emissions. It shortens our lives through air pollution and it kills more than 700 people a year through road accidents. Radical ideas for transport are required!
Advances in smart mobility technologies that aim to tackle these challenges make for a real and promising trend. E-commerce applications regulate transport of goods with increasing efficiency and innovative data collection methods make for more precise predictions of passenger traffic.
But with this ever trend comes an undeniable level of complexity, palpable within every level of the mobility ecosystem. The availability of vast amounts of data, produced via numerous technologies and managed by multiple actors makes their accessibility and effective use more than challenging. That’s why during this lunch, we’ll wrap our brains around:
- How can we make digital mobility solutions accessible to all layers of society (elderly, youngsters, physically impaired, rural population etc.)?
- How might we improve access to this data by various key stakeholders of the transport sector, for the benefit of decision making at policy level?
- How can we allow citizens to become informed contributors of such data (e.g. through citizen observatories)?
- How could we make the new purchasing trend that is shaped by the ever growing offer of novel e-commerce applications (like microstransit and ride-hailing apps) as sustainable as possible?
Among the platforms put in place to tackle these challenges, we’re proud to address a shout-out to Mo; the experimental exposition space launched by our co-organiser BECI. It is Mo;’s mission to promote urban mobility solutions through numerous activities (talks, demonstrations, expositions, etc.) and consulting services for mobility start-ups.

ABOUT THE HACK & CHEESE EVENTS
A different networking type of events where 60 innovation professionals from the private sector (established companies of all sizes and startups), from government and from academia come together. They compare notes on the challenges that keep them up at night, and on the opportunities they see – and figure out where collaboration would be meaningful.
What makes this formula powerful is diversity of the combined network of BECI and Hack Belgium. And of course, the touch of Hack Belgium creative madness and “hacker” attitude guarantee a superlative ideation session and truly outstanding networking. Check all the Hack & Cheese topics.
