The Science & Technology Experience Zone is a super inspiring exhibitor and meeting space where you can learn all about emerging technologies and how these could be applied to your idea or project. Have a good idea? In the Experience Zone you’ll find the insight to make it a great idea, to really take it into the future. Don’t yet have a good idea? In the Experience Zone, you’ll find the inspiration to come up with a WOW idea.
Nearly 40 technology enthusiasts will be showcasing their passions and inventions in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, internet of things, digital fabrication, drones, space technology, energy-tech, virtual reality, blockchain and bio-as-tech. It’s the go-to place to see tech in action, to try tech out yourself and to talk to scientists and tech experts in every conceivable field.
In addition, you’ll find an extensive User Testing Zone, where experts will help you get user feedback on your ideas and prototypes.
Business & startup experts will also be on hand with a range of toolkits to help you develop your idea faster and better.
Make the best use of the Experience Zone
ON DAY 1
Explore as much of the Experience as you can. Soak it all up as inspiration for new ideas or to improve your existing ideas.
ON DAY 2
There will be experts available in the Experience Zone to help you develop and validate your idea. Make sure that one or two people in your team are assigned to “Experience Zone” duty. Use it to answer all your technology related questions, learn to use startup-inspired toolkits and definitely make use of the User Testing Zone to get user validation for your idea!

The folks from open bio-hacking lab ReaGent, bio-oriented creative agency Glimps and science educator Ekoli will be at Hack Belgium in full force. Glimps will showcase biodesign products, future materials and biofabrication techniques. ReaGent will set up shop with their biolab to demo biotechnologies through hands-on workshops (with Ekoli).
medialab.brussels is an inspiring environment for students, experts, entrepreneurs, artists. They provide people and resources to develop your prototype. At Hack Belgium, they’ll support you with physical prototyping, digital prototyping, design thinking, and business model prototyping. They’ll also be giving hands-on prototyping workshops in the Experience Zone so you learn by doing.
Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality
VR-AR curator Juan Bossicard will support you with all VR-AR related questions and has invited the cream of the Belgian crop of immersive technology startups and agencies to showcase the power of this amazing technology. It’ll be huge.

Blockchain curator Guillaume Veldekens will support you with all blockchain related questions and has invited a super interesting range of Belgian blockchain technology startups to showcase the power of this disruptive technology. Make sure you visit the Hive blockchain zone!

Blockchain curator Albert De Beir will support you with all robotics related questions. Albert will also bring along some examples of robotic technology, both products in the market and research prototypes. Stay tuned for more information!
Aerospace & Drones
Space curator, Guerric de Crombrugghe de Looringhe, and drones curator, Jean-Brieuc Feron, who are both from SABCA (Belgium’s leading aerospace company), will be available to support you with all aerospace related questions. Hilde Stenuit from Space Applications Services, another top aerospace company, will also be available and tell you all about their ICE Cubes service, which connects you to the Space Station!

Ice Cubes – making space tech accessible
Space Applications Services will demo their ICE Cubes space station facility, possibly with a direct link the international space station from the HackBelgium venue (wireless)! The ICE Cubes service provides fast and direct access to space for research and technology and allows for any entity to take (business) advantage from space assets.
Find out how wearable sensor technology & smartphone applications are used to measure vital signs and context information of patients at home to detect , prevent and treat chronic diseases. In the experience zone you’ll see a demonstration of mobile health technology such as connected devices, wearable sensors and smartphone applications.
The Mobile Health Unit is a multidisciplinary center of expertise in Mobile Healthcare. They combine academic knowledge of Hasselt University with the clinical expertise of Jessa Hospital and Hospital East-Limburg. They aim to improve Healthcare and Well Being through Research, Innovation, Education and Promotion of Mobile Health Technologies.
Love the Beat
This experience is all about connections… See how you and your friends and teammates biologically connect and determine the love heartbeat. Do our hearts find the same rhythm when we touch, look in each other’s eyes? Is there a difference between couples, friends or family? Can we help one another to relax? Dr Love checks your compatibility based on an algorithm analyzing the synchronization of your hearts.
Vasileios Vallas will be presenting PlantHive. PlantHive is the next generation of connected food-computers that is going to revolutionize urban farming! We combine climate control with computer vision technology to offer people a new experience: “discover how life can grow from a seed to a fully-fledged crop, ready to be harvested and enjoyed!”

imec.livinglabs offers researchers and entrepreneurs the chance to co-create and test their innovative solutions thoroughly with their target audience and stakeholders. The involvement of the end users at an early stage of the development process makes it possible to tailor the innovation from the outset to real needs, habits, attitudes and contextual factors. In that way products and services are better and have every chance of success on the market.
You can visit Olivier Rits and Sofie De Lancker from imec.livinglabs in the User Testing zone for advice and mentoring about how to involve users in your design process and how imec could help you in this regard. They’ll also be giving a workshop on how to work with users on day 2 of Hack Belgium. Finally, if you’re excited about technology and digital services imec will invite you to join their user testing panel.
