The event stands out for at least two reasons. First, it is a joint initiative of European fintech platform, B-Hive, and 5 of its partners – all major financial institutions including BNP Paribas Fortis, AXA, Ageas and Ethias. The event is also supported by the Belgian Minister of Finance, Johan Van Overtveldt. In other words, this is your chance to pitch your work to at least six major potential customers.
Second, the goal of the hackathon is not only to produce code, but to come up with ingenious and well thought out business solutions. This is because the hackathon partners intend to fund the best of these solutions as Proof of Concept projects. They’re taking this seriously. They intend to do business.
The hackathon is open to company teams or individuals, and you can build on your existing technologies or solutions. It’s the end result that matters: a solution that can be implemented at scale by the event partners. The partners are all providing relevant business challenges and experts to help you create a viable business proposition. And a jury of senior decision makers will select the most promising teams, who will go on to deliver a Proof of Concept.
Ok. So how do I apply?
Depending on if you wish to participate with a team from within your organisation, or as an individual, we provide two different tracks:
- If you are a startup or scale-up you can apply to the Company Track. This track addresses three dedicated challenges (for more information about the challenges go to the registration site):
→ Fraud detection
→ An industry wide vendor management platform
→ Regulatory reporting & data governance
- If you are an individual (like a designer, developer, entrepreneur or technologist), with or without a project idea, we invite you to take part in the Open Track. This track focuses on one, general challenge: New mobile payment technologies and financial inclusion
Registrations are now open. A detailed description of the application process is provided on the registration page.
Are there any prizes?
Absolutely. Winners in the Company Track will receive funding to develop their Proof of Concept with B-Hive or one of our partners. The winning team will also have an opportunity to pitch at Digital Finance Europe 2018 (on 26 September). If you win in the Open Track, your team will receive €5000 in cash. But perhaps most importantly, this is a golden opportunity to present your work to a panel of senior decision makers at least six major financial institutions.
