AR & VR help us interact with technology beyond the usual laptop, tablet and smartphone. What can you do with it, and what will you be able to do with it at Hack Belgium? A word from our AR & VR curator Cederik Haverbeke:
Augmented and Virtual Reality allow us to interact with technology using our basic senses. They are the communication layer with the future.
In the Augmented and Virtual Reality track we explore how you can use this layer that allows people to interact with technology in a natural way.
Like in marketing – Augmented Reality marketing takes the available digital data and creates an integrated 3-D image of a product. It allows consumers to experience that product up close and personal. Think virtual fitting rooms for clothing brands. While Virtual Reality allows you to immersive your audience in a story like no medium before.
Are you selling very big or very small equipment which is hard to make available in a showroom? Think Virtual or Augmented. Let the customers enter the showroom you always imagined but could never build.
Or how about training? Training an employee on how to react on a burning oil platform can be challenging and expensive in real life. But by engulfing him in a virtual reality simulation which his mind tells him is real, you can do this over and over at a fraction of the cost.
And let’s not forget about the possibilities in manufacturing or production. Have all the data available in real time when prototyping or in product review meetings.
Explore the medium that is able to visualise the digital like no technology before.
